ABOUT THE PLAY: Marisha Chamberlain’s beautifully resonant adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel brings the March sisters to life with warmth, humor, and heartbreak. Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, the story follows Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy as they navigate the transition from childhood to adulthood, discovering love, loss, and the power of family along the way.

A NOTE ON CASTING THE MARCH DAUGHTERS: We are offering significant flexibility with casting the March sisters. Our priority is finding actors who embody the essence, energy, and emotional journey of these young women. If you feel a strong connection to a role and believe you can bring their story to life, we warmly encourage you to audition, regardless of the suggested age ranges.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

The March Sisters:

  • Jo March (Playable Age: 18–25): Spirited, headstrong, and an aspiring author who longs for freedom. She is fiercely independent and challenges the societal expectations of her gender.

  • Meg March (Playable Age: 20–28): The oldest sister. She is motherly, kind, dutiful, and romantic. While she craves a comfortable life, she shares a deep, bond with her family.

  • Beth March (Playable Age: 18–23): The quiet, sweet, and musically inclined third daughter who serves as the gentle, grounding peacemaker of the family. Ability to play piano is a major plus!

  • Amy March (Playable Age: 18–22): The youngest daughter; artistic, ambitious, and occasionally vain, but with a deeply loyal heart and a desire to see the world.

The Family:

  • Marmee March (Playable Age: 45–60): The strong, loving, and patient matriarch of the March family, guiding her daughters with steadfast wisdom and grace while their father is away at war.

  • Mr. March / Father (Playable Age: 45–60): The idealistic and principled patriarch of the March family. Though he is away serving as a chaplain in the Union Army for much of the story, his moral influence, quiet wisdom, and loving presence are deeply felt by his daughters.

  • Aunt March (Playable Age: 60–80): The wealthy, formidable, and highly opinionated aunt who expects strict propriety and adherence to tradition from her nieces.

  • Hannah (Playable Age: 50–70): The March family's loyal, hardworking, and long-serving housekeeper. She is gruff and pragmatic on the outside but fiercely devoted to the family, acting as a deeply trusted, secondary maternal figure to the girls.

  • Theodore "Laurie" Laurence (Playable Age: 18–25): The charming, wealthy, and playful boy next door who desperately wants to belong to the March family's lively world.

  • Mr. Laurence (Playable Age: 60–75): Laurie's wealthy and initially intimidating grandfather who reveals a generous, tender heart, particularly toward Beth.
